BEAR // Animal Messenger

Bears are a symbol of loyalty, strength and protection.
Although bears are largely solitary, females care for and provide for their cubs, fiercely protecting them for the first 3 years of their life.
Adult bears have very few predators due to their natural defences and sheer strength and size to fight off predators. Young bear cubs are most at risk of being preyed on by larger carnivores as they are mostly defenceless against bigger animals. The mama-bear spirit is loving, nurturing and playful, while always cautious and on-guard for potential threats (much like human mamas!)
Bears posses an excellent sense of smell and despite their large size and awkward gait, they are competent at running, swimming and climbing. With their physical power, enabling them to stand up on two back legs is a symbol of leadership and inner strength - they also have the perfect balance of being incredibly nurturing to those they love, but also fiercely protective when that love is threatened.
Bears teach us the importance of standing up for what we love, always protecting our own worth and looking after the things we work hard for and the people that are most precious to us.
If Bear has entered your field recently, the key questions to ask yourself what it means specific to you are:
1. What was I doing / thinking / feeling at the time of the encounter?
2. How did seeing this messenger make me feel?
3. What was the animal doing and what was significant about it specifically?
4. Can you see how any of these things relate to the meaning above?
What is your own mythic tale you can weave to get your own beautiful message from this guide?
Journal and contemplate with these prompts to uncover your own personalised meaning and symbolism.
